Your paper MUST be a minimum of 5 pages typed, double-spaced, using a 12-point font with 1″ margins. Cover pages and bibliography pages will not count toward the page requirement, nor will illustrations or diagrams. 4) Your paper must contain at least THREE sources of reference including at least one scholarly journal article, which can be found through the library′s research page. Your text book should be one of the reference materials you use. You must cite all of the sources that you use when writing the paper. A citation is necessary for any information that you paraphrase or directly quote. If you do not have direct personal knowledge of the information that you use in the paper, then a citation is required. Be sure to cite your sources in the body of the paper and list them in a bibliography. Use the APA format for citations and bibliographies and Documentation Style; guidelines can be found on the IONA Library page. If you are unsure or require assistance with source citations, please consult with the instructor or a librarian. Students will receive poor grades on their papers if there is a failure to cite sources appropriately. 5) The purpose of the research paper is to fully describe, apply and analyze three specific theories – Social Process, Social Structure, Conflict Theory 6) Your paper will be broken down into five distinct categories and should be titled as such with topic headings for each section: a. Introduction – Briefly present your topic and what you hope to accomplish with this paper. (A good way to start is: “The purpose of this paper is…)Why is it important, Why is it significant to the Criminal Justice System. b. Theory – Describe how these three theories work to explain crime/criminality. Who are the major theorists involved? How do their explanations of crime differ? What are the basic principles of these theories? How are they different from other theories? How long have these theories existed? Do you think they work well to explain crime? What are their weak and strong points? What are some examples of specific theories within these family of theories? etc…. c. Prevention – How do these theories suggest that we prevent the problem/crime? Describe how these theories would put an end to problems portrayed in the film if its theorists were put in charge of the criminal justice system. e. Conclusion – Summarize the key concepts you presented in the paper. Sum it up; restate the most important ideas you presented in your paper. Remember to note and use specific evidence from the film.
